Visiting Tips

Hotel Zone

Most beaches are accessed via resort day passes. Public access points are available at intervals.

Riptides

The open Caribbean side can have strong currents. Look for flag warnings before swimming.

Getting Around

R1 bus runs the full length of the Hotel Zone cheaply. Taxis are also widely available.

Playa Delfines

The best free public beach in Cancun — no hotel required and great views of the turquoise water.

Sargassum at South Cancún: What to Expect

⚠️ High Risk

Most exposed section of the Hotel Zone. Faces east — offset by Cancún's world-class cleanup response.

The southern Hotel Zone — from Playa Delfines south toward Punta Nizuc — faces east into the open Caribbean. This is the most exposed section of Cancún's coastline, in contrast to the northern Hotel Zone which curves westward into the protected Bahía de Mujeres. Sargassum arrives from the east: the south catches it first and hardest.

What South Cancún has is the most aggressive cleanup operation in Quintana Roo. Hotel operators coordinate with municipal crews overnight and machinery runs before dawn — the beach can be cleared by 8am even after a heavy overnight arrival. Conditions are highly dynamic: an afternoon can look very different from morning after a current shift.
